Possibly, but why was your dog docked so late? Usually it is done when the pup is days old, for obvious reasons.

If you are ever in doubt, call your vet–it’s free. :)

  • No,it isn’t normal! Puppies have their tails removed at about 2 days old.You need to take the dog to the vet to have the stitches removed and see what is going on.The tail should have healed in a week.

why on earth would you dock a sheepdog’s tail?

  • Ocimom says:

No – I’d have a vet look at. Normally tails are docked on pups up to 3 DAYS old. They should not be docked after that – its major amputation at that point.

There defiantly should not be stitches left in place they should have dissolved or been removed by a vet. The dock itself should have long been healed. (would have been completely healed before you ever brought it home) It is possible the stitches being left in place this long as resulted in an infection. You need to see your vet.
