We socialized her extensively from 8 weeks and she still has some behavioral and aggression problems. Our shiba can be unpredictable, extremely high energy, disobedient, independent, dominant etc. She can also be a cuddle bug. But the gamble is the issue. The older our shiba inu gets, the more problems she seems to develop. As a young pup, she was fine around children, other dogs, etc. However, as she gets older and more set in her ways, she has developed fear and aggression with children and small dogs. We are currently looking into behavorial modification courses for her. While I do love my shiba inu, I def dont think they are the right breed for everyone. You have to have A LOT of free time, and even more patience. I dont think a shiba would do well in an enviro with an infant and a larger, older dog. I also think it would be far too much for you to handle, with a baby to worry about. I dont mean to sound terrible but I wouldnt want you to get one and than figure out later that you might have to get rid of the shiba. Good Luck to you! I would say No. :(

As young pups, both of my Shibas were well-socialized, so they both love kids & other animals... but I can't say every Shiba will be the same. You should keep in mind that they are highly intelligent dogs, so if you do adopt one into your family, I would make sure you had the time to train your Shiba. It does make a huge difference in the long run, & Shibas just love challenges! They're also very independent, so training this breed is pretty much a must-do. But more than not, they make great pets because they tend to be so loyal to their families. Overall, if you take the time to train & socialize your Shiba, you should be fine..... They are not the best with kids & can easily see them as prey. They have extreme prey drive & are difficult to own. You really must do a lot more research into shiba behavior & challenges before getting one. Their adorable exterior hides a demon personality. I wouldn’t esp. with an infant. If you happen by a Shiba Inu puppy, there is a possibility that it will learn to get along with your sheep dog, but the baby may pose a problem as the Shiba Inu doesn't do well with being poked and prodded at by little hands. My shiba loves all female dogs, and he will just go up and sniff any friendly cat, rat, mouse, bird rather than attack it. Shibas can get chewy and destructive if they get ignored. They are also very very smart, macho, forward dogs. They require an inordinate amount of time to be devoted to them in keeping them in line and properly exercised.
