well, there are dogs that don’t shed, those are hypo allergenic because the hair wont go up ur nose.

  • There are no breeds of dogs that are hypoallergenic. There are individual dogs that allergic people may have no reaction to.

I think Obama is doing some kind of homework to try and find a dog that will fit what the family needs.

**There are also NO non-shedding dogs. ALL living things shed. Things with hair…like HUMANS, HAVE to shed.

  • Starlight says:

True. Some breeds are less allergic that others, but it isn’t only the dander it could be saliva Some people are allergic to one breed and not the other.

  • Yes and no- there are some dogs that shed less, and therefore there is less hair carrying dander. “Hypo” just means “low” , so even if it is a little lower it is technically not a lie, but they ar often exaggerated. Allergies can be very individual, and people need to realize that no dog is a guarantee, and the “hypoallergenic” dogs still may cause a reaction. They need to talk to their doctors to best manage their allergies, and use care when buying or adopting a dog to see if they react. THey also need to realize that they are making a promise to the dog, and they need to think about what happens to the dog if they end up having a reaction.

Obama is adopting a dog, so even if he is expecting a bt much there won’t be any puppy mills or BYBs profiting, unless of course he advertises a stupid designer dog name!

people are usually allergic to dogs because of their dander and hair. there are hairless dogs (one has been offered to Obama’s family, and it’s cuter than you’d think) that should be very very low allergy causing. poodles also shed very lightly, so less allergy causing then a regular-coat dog. the hybrid labradoodles are also famous for their low allergy coats.

i think people are also allergic to dogs because of their spit and stuff. since hairless dogs have this, they’re probably arent completely hypoallergenic dogs.

  • BOSS says:

There are breeds that are less offensive to allergies than others. These are usually the dogs with hair, rather than fur. Breeds like Poodles and Portuguese Water Dogs are less likely to irritate allergies.

However, no breed or individual dog is ‘hypoallergenic”. A pillow can be hypoallergenic; a living creature cannot. It’s not just fur that irritates allergies. Any by-product of the dog can, like dander, saliva, urine, etc. Unless you can find a dog with no organic elements, you’re not going to find a hypoallergenic dog.

To label a dog as hypoallergenic is a deceitful marketing ploy.

  • Richard L says:

There are dogs that are considered “non or low shedders.” They are Maltese, ShihTzu, Yorkshire Terrier, Poodle and a few others. And then there are dogs that are high shedders such as Labs, Shepherds etc.

If you are prone to allergies, it is best to look into a non or low shedder.
Remember that any sheds skin, so a lot of times it is not the hair that make people allergic but the skin shedding.

No, there is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. This is a selling point some breeders use. It is not true.
