i have a dog named Shelby, shes spayed and is a three year old pure bred golden Labrador retriever. All my past dogs did not live very long, but i hope she gets to be over 10 which is the age my first dog ever died at. and we have a neighbor down the street who lets her dog have puppy’s like crazy, its sad but one of them was hit and killed by a car.

This was a joy to watch. Judy, you are my hero and role model. I applaud you and everything you have done and are doing. Thank you for all. If there were more people like you in this world, the world would be a significantly better place. All the blessings to you. You rock!!

Thank you for rescueing Chile! If people would get their pets from rescues, shelters or reputable breeders, the number of euthanized animals would decrease significantly. We just rescued Mona, an 8 year old boxer, emaciated and ill, just had ANOTHER litter ~ a backyard breeder. All but one puppy died, and she is too ill to nurse that one. Mona threw up a plastic trash bag the day after we got her ~ a clueless owner breeding and selling puppies!

    great video… very touching.

I’m sorry to read of Shelby’s passing. What a wonderful way to honor a pet, by saving another’s life. We don’t care where people adopt from, just please, adopt a pet! Let’s put these puppy mills out of business so Orange County and other shelters can give their pets a longer time to find a home! Spay, Neuter, Adopt!

Judy gave me the opportunity to meet and love a wonderful part of my family for over 7 years- Shelby died this past year and I rescued another dog last December. It is so important to be proactive, spay and neuter, donate and do the right thing. They will love you!

  • Regardless, they do not welcome rescues, and it is private rescues that buys these animals more time. Private rescues post on their own websites and petfinder, and seek out new families to adopt. It’s called being pro-active, instead of being a dead-beat (pardon the pun). We are losing against the mass production due to the puppy mill trade who, for the most part, are producing terribly defective and dominant dogs with poor genetic dispositions, and these dogs are traded in for a new model.

There will always be a number of animals euthanized. However, there should be a concerted effort to rehome vs kill. Orange County does not post their pets on petfinder or other such sites, just their private website. They do not proactively contact breed rescues. They make it difficult for rescues to work with them. Is it reasonable that with a budget of almost $10 million, they adopted out less than 4,000 pets in 2007? They start from a “kill” philosophy; that is the problem.

  • The harsh reality is animal shelters have no choice but to euthanize unwanted dogs and cats because these shelters constantly recieve new animals which makes it impossible to save room for all of them. Keeping every single unwanted pet in these shelters indefinitely would also be very expensive considering the costs for food and care. If more people took care of there pets and didn’t get rid of them for no reason euthanization wouldn’t be necessay. I’m not trying to justify it but its the truth

its frustrating isn’t it… feeling like so few people care… Good luck…

This is a very touching and heart wrenching video. I am praying that it reaches many many people and helps them to understand what our animals go through. Please send this to your friends and family to see.

This video was not only done to bring awareness to our animals but also to bring awareness to PetRescuebyJudy located in Orlando,FL. They are trying to stop her from helping. Visit their site and check them out-they do amazing things for all creatures!

This is outrageous. All these animals ask for is kindness and love and they give unconditional love in return. Perhaps the residents of Orange County need to ask for a breakdown of what all this money they are allowed is being used for. Sounds like somebody is not doing their job and getting lots of perks. These animals should not be killed! This video is well done and thank God for Pet Rescue by Judy and other rescue operations, they will definitely have a place in Heaven.

There goal is animal control ~ picking up strays, cofiscating danerous pets, etc. If some get adopted, that’s nice, but it isn’t the priorty. Theirs is a “Kill” philosophy. Nathan Winograd and the No Kill Advocacy Center are actively and successfully working with cities and counties throughout the country, converting them to no-kill philosophy in a matter of months, saving lives and saving taxpayers’ money. It takes community support and outcry. Imagine, a no-kill nation…..

  • jjmolloy says:

Orange County animal control had a 2006-2007 budget of $9,022,347. According to their own website, they impounded 22,991 pets, returned 1,474 to owners and adopted out only 3,750 pets! They state that they only euthanised 13,386. I’m no math wiz, but it seems to me that leaves 8,131 pets unaccounted for!!!
Their budget for 2008 is $15,761,053! You have to be kidding! What are taxpayers paying for here?

  • Very very sad. Our tax dollars are being spent to kill pets. What’s more sad is pet owners are dropping off their pets at shelters with absolutely no knowledge of their practices. The fact that there are so many anti-rescue groups out there makes me even cry some more. The general public is quick to bash a private rescue, and they have no idea that it’s the county shelters that send their animals to the rescues. I hope that when I die, I don’t come back as a dog.

I’m amazed at the SPCA in Orlando! Per Charity Navigator ,the SPCA of Orlando has an annual operating budget of almost 5millon dollars and will not take in strays, and continues to euthanize, but the biggest thing that gets to me is that this charity to “help the animals” pay’s it’s director $107,000 a year! That is criminal,I don’t
begrudge anyone making a living but that is excessive and on the backs of animals!!! In S.C. the SPCA has a budget of 5.5mil and pays the director 50gran

  • We are spread apart here in Central Florida, and have very little assistance for low cost neuter/spay. It all depends where you live!

  • Agreed. In many cases, the shelters give dogs and cats to the privates rescue, so the animals have more time. I’ve personally pulled dogs from a county shelter just to give them a chance. It worked!

I was at our local SPCA and Animal Shelter this week. There was a volunteer at SPCA who told me that once the cats get upper respiratory and are treated, if they catch a cold again, they won’t treat them a second time and just put them down! I have friends and neighbors who donate to SPCA and I don’t think they have a clue that they kill animals at all. They think they are saviors of the animal world, when in reality it is the small rescues like this and their volunteers.

Check out low cost spay/neuter in your area. I’m fairly sure they will fix your pets even if you don’t have the money. PLEASE! If you find a little of kittens ask about them at the neuter/spay. I think vet techs should be able to do at least the males. Very easy surgery. Heck they do it on farms all the time.

  • prbj says:

Susan, I am struck by how supportive you have been of Pet Rescue By Judy. You represent exactly what we are talking about ~ you are located half way across the country from us but you UNDERSTAND the significance of each small rescue. When one faulters, there isn’t another to take up the slack. All are full. The ones who would have been rescued end up euthanized. Thank you for your support, for being a voice!
