Sheepdogs
Shetland sheep dogs, even bred to be small, are great herding dogs and many of them have strong herding instinct. They tend to hunt and herd animals as squirrels and ducks. Also, never leave your pet alone with the children. Children can be rough when playing with the dog and besides, even children are not exempt from being shepherded by a Sheltie. Be careful that a child running across the yard can trigger your pet herding instinct. The best way to handle this is to educate children about how they will react when this happens. When Sheltie begins to choke, ran away and the noise is not recommended for it will only encourage the dog to do more. But stay calm and say "no" in a firm voice can help get the dog to stop what he is doing.
