its natural for your dog to smell a bit, i’ve got working collies they roll in all sorts of nasty things. we just wash them down but don’t get them two cold because it could do them some harm
dogs are well known for there nasty smell and dragons breath
yaeh its fine to wash your sheepdog. i would say probably no more than 2-3 times a year to keep the oils in a dogs coat. and yes most dogs smell doggie when they are wet.
yes its fine to wash him, get some dog shampoo from the pet shop and he will smell lovely when you have done him, and yes all dogs smell when they get wet it has something to do with the oils in their skin.
i got German shepherd oh my god he stinks lololol he rolls in the mud he loves the rain i dont have a choice i have to bath him at least every couple of months he really stinks i know you not ment to bath them but i have to and if your dog is a working dog then he will get dirty it dont do my dog any harm just make sure hes in a warm place when drying off good luck xx
Do you mean an old english? No dog should be bathed more than once a month at most – you’re just going to dry out their skin and coat, especially in winter. Your dog needs to be bathed, then simultaneously brushed and dried with a blow dryer. If you don’t brush him as he’s drying, the mats will become impenetrable. Also, dogs get quite chilled while they’re wet, so never let him outside till he’s dry.
Yes, it’s good to wash your dog every so often, just use a good dog shampoo and dry him good. Some dogs are scared of things like hair dryers. test it on your dog to see how it will react, if the dog does not like it do not use it and good heavy towel will work just as good. Yes, all dogs smell when they are wet, but a good bath will make them smell better.
-As it has already been said all dogs smell when they are wet.
-It’s ok to wash him, but not too often because dog’s skin produces this natural protective oils which you will destroy if you overdo it.
-I would propose another solution: Brush him as often as you can! This will make the dirt come off his coat and you’ll help him get rid of the dead hair. You’ll see a great imrovement. He will become cleaner, prettier and he’ll learn to appreciate the massage also!
As an alternative to a full bath, try making up some dog shampoo as bottle instructions with warm water. Wet a towel in it and wring out quite well then use the towel on your dog as if you were drying him, against the coat a couple of times and then with the coat.Rinse and reload towel as many times as you need it. You can also wash the face, in between toes etc with the towel or face cloth perhaps. Repeat with warm clear water to rinse and towel dry and brush. Won’t get him too cold, lovely bonding and play, allows you to check your dog over for injuries or other problems and a clean smelling dog( at least until he finds something delightfully stinky to roll in or the next time he is wet!)
You can also do this a little more often than full bathing and its a good way or cooling your dog in the summer months without the splatter factor of the garden hose!
Have fun.
dog should be washed ideally once every 2 months any more than that and you do more harm than good coz you will strip all their natural oils from the skin and fur, also try to use baby shampoo instead of dog shampoo
I have 2 Old English Sheepdogs and in the winter they can pong a bit, the car smells of them too. I would be wary of bathing them at this time of year, but if you do then get the coat Matt free first, and a daily brushing will help keep the coat cleaner. You can also get sprays to help with the smell but that only works after the bath, then every other day. Not too much just a few squirts. There’s a lot of online pet suppliers if you cant get it locally.

You should always wash any dog every time it needs it – and that will be obvious. And yes, they all smell of “wet dog”.
1. Yes, you can wash your dog.
2. I’d say once a week would be alright, depending on temperatures and how often he actually gets his coat dirty.
3. Yes, all dogs smell when they’re wet.

Yes you should bath him. Be sure to brush him & get all the mats out first or they will get worse. Once a week is too frequent. Monthly is better.

Every dog smells when they’re wet.
It matters how much he likes it but if he smells when he’s dry, then wash him.
Go ahead and wash him!

Some good previous answers.
